Being a successful entrepreneur takes more than a keen eye for business. In addition to a good business sense, there are some essential entrepreneurial attributes which are helpful to those who want to enter in this field and succeed.
Persistence and Determination – Entrepreneurship is filled with ups and downs. You will need will power to determine a worthy goal and persistence to continue despite the obstacles. Persistence and determination is a mental process that can be learned by anyone. Determination is the “firmness of purpose”, the act of determining or coming to a decision. Remember that if you are not decisive with your life and do not make a determination about your goals, someone will and usually not in your favor.
“If you don’t know where you’re going, you’ll probably end up somewhere else.”
Determination involves holding firmly to a purpose or worthy goal. However, Persistence is what will get you through the obstacles that you will face as an entrepreneur. Persistence is defined as “continuing in spite of opposition”.
“If at first your don’t succeed, try, try again”
Persistence has to do with willingness to repeat an activity until you succeed no matter how many attempts are required. It also involves an intention to correct failed actions so that repeated attempts improve performance. Entrepreneurs are constantly being challenged and it is the persistence and determination that will help them overcome the set backs and obstructions that may get on the way. There is no easy road to success. There is no success pill that will guarantee you wealth and success. You have to work hard at your idea; even on the days when nothing goes right, the days when you lose.
“Lots of people think they have great ideas, but very few people have the courage to take that idea, to jump in and commit completely to it.”
Positive Thinking – Successful entrepreneurs create positive energy. They focus on the possibilities, not the problems. Therefore, dedicate more time analyzing your successes than crying your failures. Use failure as a learning opportunity, and move on.
Passion – I believe that you must choose your passion and success will follow. However, passion alone is not enough to guarantee success. You have to believe in your business and its products and services. What makes it worth doing for so many years? Passion – the intense compelling emotion, desire, and enthusiasm for something.
Self confidence – Self confidence is must for an entrepreneur. They must believe in their capacities and confirms that they will invest in their best attempt into their attempts and similarly anticipate the best consequences from it. Entrepreneurship is not for the weak of heart; entrepreneurship success stories are written of those who are bold hearted, the ones who “grabbed the bull by the horns”. Remember, there is a fine line between success and failure, therefore to end up on the road of success you must dominate the fear of failure.
Very few people are fortunate enough to be born with all of these entrepreneurial attributes, but the good news is that they can all be learned. So what are you waiting for? Get those entrepreneurial juices flowing!
